The Village Hall is 100 years old. We celebrated our centenary on Saturday 1st June with a special version of our regular Afternoon Teas. In addition to free tea, coffee and soft drinks, there was a range of activities for young and old. Wonderful cakes came from the Great Littlemore Bake Off competition. There were children’s activities, a tombola and a silent auction, and craft and gift stalls. A historical display about the Hall and its place in Littlemore life over the last 100 years was kindly provided by the Littlemore Local History Society. We also took the opportunity to showcase our plans for the future. Restoration and improvements at the Village Hall The Village Hall Committee is working on a programme of improvements and restoration work to take our Hall into its second century. Did you know that the Village Hall opened its doors in 1924? Now we're looking at what needs to be done to make sure it can continue to provide a welcoming space for our community for another hundred years. Current projects Getting greener We are working hard to reduce our carbon footprint and energy costs. Investigations have shown that the existing false ceiling will not take the weight of additional insulation. Our recent Energy Audit revealed that proper insulation at roof level, together with de-stratification fans, would be equally effective. Removing the false ceiling would also allow us to restore the original appearance of the hall, with a beamed roof, and to open up the three large windows in the gable end, increasing natural light. |
