Restoration and improvements at the Village Hall The Village Hall Committee is working on a programme of improvements and restoration work to take our Hall into its second century. Did you know that the Village Hall opened its doors in 1924? Now we're looking at what needs to be done to make sure it can continue to provide a welcoming space for our community for another hundred years. Current projects Improving access for the disabled The work to install new access ramps at the front and rear of the building is nearing completion. This has proved more complex, and taken longer than we anticipated – a big thank you to all our users for their patience while the work has continued. The new front ramp now makes it much easier for wheelchairs and buggies to get into the hall, and new locks on the front door make it simpler to operate. The new door and windows at the back already let in floods of light and allow views of the garden. It just needs a little more work to complete the ramp to give easy access for all to our green haven. Removing the false ceiling We are working hard to reduce our carbon footprint and energy costs. Investigations have shown that the existing false ceiling will not take the weight of additional insulation. Our recent Energy Audit revealed that proper insulation at roof level, together with de-stratification fans, would be equally effective. Removing the false ceiling would also allow us to restore the original appearance of the hall, with a beamed roof, and to open up the three large windows in the gable end, increasing natural light. We are now looking for external sources of funds to support this project. |
